I can reproduce this issue without any audio enhancers or anything like that, just plain Realtek audio. As soon as Scogger HD reaches the main menu, where music should begin to play, all sound from every program including rpcs3 goes quiet, and stays quiet until I reboot, or disable and enable the audio device from the device manager.
Hit additional power settings at the bottom and enable gaming or performance mode. If you have an nVIDIA, right click on desktop and hit nVIDIA control panel. Hit manage 3D settings and hit program settings. As the title says, I'm trying to play mgs4 right now. My main problem right now is that I can't use my controller in the main menu of the game. I can still hear the music and the animation of the leaves in the background, but I can't select anything. Audio stutter is almost gone! I noticed the audio stutter is now almost gone with the latest build, tested in GOW HD Collection 1. It seems there are some CPU tweaks that reduced the usage and therefore the audio stutter was reduced! Thank you RPCS3 Team!! I find audio stutter to be tied to disk access, I/O operations, not CPU usage.

The upgrade path never broke the audio (the cache and the game install was kept independant), while new copy of emulator with just the PPE cache copied (to save on compile time) broke the audio. So i copied the dev_hdd0 installed files for mgs4 from old rpcs3 version to the fresh copy of newer rpcs3 versions and the audio is fixed.

GaleNorth. To compensate for steam deck's weak CPU the relaxed SPU and GPU settings seems to help a lot. Somtimes, e.g. in Ratchet and Clank a crack in time, the SPU relaxed setting can cause animation issues but mostly it seems to work. Wrt. Preferred number of SPU threads I find 3 to be a good value for the more demanding games.
