I disabled them and the crash still occured. Besides, I doubt pretty background galaxys are causing the game to crash during the mid-game crisis.
One fix is to add -opengl at startup args. If you get red dots/lines after opengl turn off anisotropic filtering at GPU control. After you deactivated all your mods, switch *a single* mod on and try again. If that works, add mod per mod until you found the mod causing the issue.
