Glenfield 30a vs marlin 336.

My stepson was given a Glenfield model 30A by his grandparents. the rear leaf sight is horrible and we had to remove the elevator completely to get it to shoot. What options for sights are available? Looking for something adjustable but would prefer to keep open/aperture sights. Don't really want to scope it. Is the 30a essentially a 336 or 1894?Marlin has a ramp front sight, the Glenfield uses a front sight dovetailed into the barrel. The Marlins have a little nicer rear sight.
