The left side appears to push out a bit when pressing the fob button, but clearly the latch is still latched and isnt allowing it to open. I tried to open it via the access panel per the repair manual instructions, but I cant seem get it open that way either.

Could be one of several problems. Most of the time it is the door 'switch' is busted and remains in the 'shorted' or closed position. With the Edge, unlike most cars, the interior lights are supposed to remain on until you hit the "lock" on your key fob.It may not be sending a strong enough signal to the car. As for the trunk not opening I wonder if it needs the fob to be in close proximity but it is not detecting it due to a weak signal. Again, just a guess. It also seems like a sensor may have failed. A blown fuse could cause this problem. Most likely this is a faulty latch in the liftgate. Since the ajar light is on this tells me the latch is the problem. Once you have the gate open you can test for power when pressing the open button.
