If you can buy an oil for $5.80 a gallon (on sale today for $4.83) at TSC that will do the job on an older tractor, why pay $8.00 for what amounts to the same thing somewhere else. I'm trying to find a yardstick to judge the oil beyond a brand name or an advertisment.

The front axel / diff takes 80 gear oil (about 7.5 litres) and has 3 drain plugs, 1 on the centre diff and 1 each at the bottom of wheel accessible from the front of the tractor. It has 1 fill plug and 1 level plug on the top of the axel on the right hand side.
The service interval for the hydrostatic LS XR 3140 hyd/transmission was to change the filters @50 hours and again at 250 hours. At 500 hours change the oil and filters. I don't member what the chain of events is after the 500 hour mark, but I would lean toward filters and oil change at 1000 hours.
