John deere 990 problems.
I am not sure if the 990 has a thermistor behind the fuse box but if that is bad it will cause starting issues with your hold-in fuel solenoid. It's a very common problem with the 4x10 series tractors which were built around the same time as the 990's so it might be something worth checking into.
Price was also a consideration for me. The 990 gives you a reliability and solid value for the $$. I have had gear tractors for 10 years. I admit to thinking of a getting shuttle shift/power reverer setup next time around whenever I am working a snow bank or doing a lot of quick back and forth work. ....The JD790 has the valves mounted on the rockshaft case under the seat. THe 990 rockshaft case is a different configuration. There is a valve on the top under the seat, and another valve on the left side of the case. JD offers a kit for each valve. THe reason is that when you let the air out, you mess up the gear ratio harmony between the front and rear axle.

I have a John Deere 990 compact tractor that is having electrical problems. I would turn the key to the pre-heat position and the dash lights will light up and turn to start and everything goes dead.
