Market is sideways and up holding short-term uptrends on daily. Not only are you fighting the trend and adding to a loser, you are using an instrument which by design will keep approaching zero and be reverse split to infinity. There is a reason I posted that UVXY chart and there is a reason it is using log scale.

On very short time frames you can - it will follow pretty close to the SPX. Longer time frames (weeks) the carry becomes the bigger deal. Over 2015, both the XIV and the VXX lost money despite being inverses of eachother.
