Discussion starter · #335 · Oct 10, 2015. The owner of this early 16ga A5 believes it is a first year gun. The factory stamped serial number on the loading port looks like serial number 5300. This is out of the first year range. It also has a second number stamped on the loading port, 34212.That model was introduced in 1958, and the serial number should have a prefix consisting of one or two digits and the letter V. One digit for the years 1958-68, then two for 1968-76. None of these guns should have a serial number on the barrel, though Nigel’s revelation makes anything possible. The FN produced A-5 barrels show the St. Louis address from 1930 through 1958 production.I am trying to find the manufacture date of a browning sweet 16 serial number VS70426 and an estimated value. On your gun, "2" is the year of manufacture,(1962) "S" is for sweet-sixteen and the serial number is XXXXX This date method was used until 1969 when 2 numbers were used for the year of manufacture. The Sweet Sixteen was made with a 2 9/16" chamber from 1937 to 1940 and a 2 3/4" chamber from 1947 to 1975.

The only thing I see not original is a Pachmayr recoil pad.
